Sweet Lime

I have always been interested in colour charts, how different shades and tones can change depending on what is next to them, and likewise how mood or senses can be altered by certain colour combinations. So, this body of work is about the frequency of 'Sweet Lime', a specific shade of green that indicates the hum of life - charged with a rich set of associations such as balance, potency, and growth.
The vignettes that make up this exhibition, 'Sweet Lime', are made in rhythmic tandem with other materials I have used previously; pencils, pastel, oil stick and watercolour. Most of these paintings began as realistic recreations drawn in pencil, in order to fully study the scenes. I then switched to paint, applying washes of highly pigmented ink and thick dabs of gouache to canvas, often starting with a ghost outline in the lightest possible watered down ink.
The combination of materials has a slightly frothy and grainy texture on the canvas, which mirrors the routine of production: painting quickly and carefully to capture the initial energy of the scene. 'Sweet Lime' sets a relatable tone, seen in the subject matter: a hen's party in the backyard, a little boy playing in the hallway with a green cup and a group of people walking about a shallow riverbed. All of these elements that form the composition convey less the literal reality of the moment, and more a feeling of presence and recognition, as if you are Right There.

All works may be purchased online by adding to cart, then specifiying the shipping details and location. Upon receipt of payment, the artwork will be set aside for you, and shipping will be arranged or pickup options will be discussed. All prices are in Australian Dollars.
Framing & Finishing
Each painting is signed on the lower right hand side, or the back of the artwork depending on the artworks composition / layout. The frames are created by United Measures Framing and are of archival standard, in a blonde oak hardwood with a natural beeswax finish.
All framed works are fitted with hanging hardware, and are ready to hang.
