In August I was invited to be an Artist in Residence for Byredo, a perfume label founded in Stockholm, who focus on translating personal memories, emotions, and collective cultural references into sensory experiences.
So, to launch their new perfume ‘Future Memories’ I spent 4 days in Sydney at the George Street Mecca and then 4 the next week in the Bourke Street store. I facilitated a unique artist in residence experience for guests who were exploring the new perfume, 'Future Memories'.
This event saw guests booking a one-on-one or couples session first with a fragrance specialist, then were led to me to begin their portrait session. We began by them selecting five prompt cards from a deck of 30, titled Future Self Portrait which was designed by Byredo. Each card asked in-depth questions about their future self, and their responses were interpreted into a bespoke A5 portrait using ink on paper. I took brief notes on what each person shared with me, reflectively responded when it was needed and asked a lot of follow-up questions. The results were different every time, of course and everyone shared so generously. Overall, it was a highly engaging and immersive experience.
