‘Prelude’, Group Exhibition
Australian Galleries
2026
I am pleased to share two works within this exhibition, ‘Heat Leak’ and ‘Walk in the rain’.
More from the gallery director, Stuart Purves:
'Regarded as one of the most reputable galleries in the country having represented the likes of Brett Whitely and Jeffrey Smart, Australian Galleries is now shining a light on the upcoming creators who stand on these legends’ shoulders in its 70th year since establishment…This dynamic curated exhibition marks the formative stages of their careers and situates a new generation within the same spaces that have long showcased many of the country’s leading contemporary artists.’
‘Walk in the rain’ was selected as a finalist for the Elaine Bermingham Watercolour Prize in 2023, ‘Walk in the rain’ was also a part of a four part mini-series I released in Winter that same year.
Each scene was painted from memory, based on walks around Merri Creek and further up along the Abbotsford / Kew border. I had the frames painted in a complementary shade picked from within the piece, a favourite framing technique of mine.
‘Heat Leak’ was selectted as a finalist in the Greenway Art Prize in 2024.
Similarly to ‘Walk in the rain’, I painted ‘Heat Leak’ from memory, after waking to a friends place for dinner in late Autumn. I remember I was listening to ‘Surface’ by Mallard whilst I had a look around Brunswick East. The pace of the song matched my walk, arriving early on purpose to take mental screen-shots of the streets. I had the work framed in a unique way, with a beautiful pea-green interior to match the frame.
‘Heat Leak’ is available to purchase, contact hello@eviecahir.com to discuss.
